As a corporation, WGI's daily operation includes exceeding customer
expectations, closing business deals, recruiting, training and
retaining employees, developing business relationships and
partnerships, and staying competitive in the marketplace. With all of
these responsibilities, WGI still makes time to contribute to the
educational community. WGI has been working with Richardson
Independent School District (RISD) professionals to teach children new
and innovative ways to use technology in the classroom while equipping
the students with the skills they will need for the future.
"We have discussed several interesting ideas for expanding learning
opportunities through technology and mentoring students through school
activities," Tomeka Herod, WGI's Manager of Corporate Communications &
Business Processes, says.

Community Programs
RISD schools that WGI supports include the following:
Richardson Heights Elementary -- Tomeka Herod serves as a
consultant for the Junior Achievement program to two 1st grade classes
at Richardson Heights. Using curriculum designed by the program,
Alicia teaches business basics to students.
Mark Twain
Elementary
-- Deborah Johnson, Tomeka Herod, Youlonda Taylor volunteer with this school's Lunch Buddy Program for grades 2nd,
4th and 6th. The program has been a great success, benefiting
students with mentors and volunteers with a heightened sense of
community.
"We have explained to the students the importance of an education,
high academic scores, obedience, and respect for elders," Deborah
says. To further assist children from this school, WGI has developed a
uniform fund to purchase clothing for underprivileged students.
Math/Science/Technology Magnet--WGI is starting an E-mail
Buddy Program with this specialized elementary school. The purpose of
the program is to share practical information and educate students
about technology (IT) applications via the Internet. A new topic will
be introduced monthly.
Richardson West Junior High-- WGI will assist this school by
integrating technical applications into portions of the school's
curriculum. In addition, WGI's Javier Canas, has
developed courses to train RISD teachers on Microsoft® Windows™
applications. These classes will bring educators up to date with the
latest software to better communicate within their school district and
beyond.

Future Leaders
Education is the future. WGI professionals want to prepare students
for the marketplace. After all, these RISD students will one day be
Richardson's leaders, decision makers and executives in the IT
industry. Why RISD? you may ask. WGI strongly believes in community
spirit. Since we are headquartered in Richardson, these students are
in a sense our children.
"WGI looks forward to a time when all students, teachers, parents and
other members of society are joined in a global learning community
that offers new opportunities for education and lifelong learning,"
Faye Moses Wilkins, WGI President said. "We use the latest technology for our
customers and would like to share this information with RISD. In
today’s world, giving our kids the best education means offering them
the best in technology and role models. WGI works to meet both of
these educational needs."
