Course WGICO101 Cable Technologies

This class will focus on the basic similarities and differences among

  • 10 Base T Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
  • IBM style coaxial
  • RJ45 cabling
  • 10 Base 2
  • Plenum shielded cabling
  • Fiber optic cable

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this class the attendee will be able to describe the components of each of the different cabling schemes, visually recognize and distinguish between a 10 base T cable, coaxial cable and voice cable. They will be able to describe the importance of the IETA 568A standard and why cable should be laid in accordance with this standard.

This class will focus on the basic principles of Ethernet, which will include:

  • Basic troubleshooting

Objectives:

At the end of the class the attendee will be able to understand how Ethernet was developed, basic components used in a network, different standards and basic troubleshooting techniques. As a pre-requisite the attendees should attend the Cable technology class or be able to demonstrate an understanding of the types of cabling used in an Ethernet environment.

Objectives:

At the conclusion of this class the attendee will be able to describe the components of each these systems, visually recognize and distinguish between an AM tower versus a Two way or satellite tower. They will be able to describe the basic company relationships amongst the various suppliers of these technologies, who is a provider, who is an equipment supplier etc.
